Geography Overview
Suriname is a country that is located on the northern coast of South America. Suriname being one of the smallest countries in South America, Suriname has only 96933.906 sq. miles of land and only 4859.123 sq. miles of water. Suriname has Jungles, mountains and plains. Suriname stretches 239.849 miles along the coast of South America. There are some major mountains that make up a few of the borders including the Tumac-Humac Mountains that form the border with brazil. Suriname is also home to the Suriname river, which is a beautiful river that spans 298 miles in Suriname. The Suriname River is home to many different species of fish and aquatic life. Suriname has many species of flora and fauna. The coastal area in Suriname is home to some 4,000 species of ferns and seed plants. The fauna include jaguars, ocelots, armadillos, sloths, anteaters, iguanas, and the boa constrictor to name a few. Beaches on the eastern side of the coast are prominent breeding grounds for marine turtles. Suriname has a tropical climate that is moderated by trade winds. This means that there is lots of rainfall and the air is mostly humid. Suriname is 95% rolling hills and tropical rainforests, the 5% is made up of swamps and mountains. Suriname is home to one of the world's largest areas of protected rainforests. Suriname has an abundance of natural resources, these include gold, bauxite, shrimp, fish, kaolin, and timber. Overall Suriname has many different terrain variations, and an expansive amount of flora and fauna.
